About Ian O’Grady

Human performance, learned where it matters.

Ian O’Grady has spent more than 30 years working in environments where pressure is real and performance has consequences.

His career has taken him from Professional Adventure and Expedition Leadership to Military Aviation as an RAF Combat Helicopter Crewman, followed by 12 years as a Search and Rescue Helicopter Winch Paramedic.

Across mountains, conflict zones and emergency rescues, Ian has seen the same truth repeatedly:

"Expertise and procedures are essential, but it is individual responses to pressure that determine the ability to apply them when it matters most."

Those experiences led Ian to study the physiology, psychology and behaviour of human performance under pressure.

By combining established science with lessons tested in demanding operational environments, he developed BASE - a practical toolbox and framework for recognising when performance begins to degrade and how to support the human to maintain clarity and  high performance.

Today, Ian works with Safety-Critical industries and Decision-Critical businesses, providing keynote speaking and practical training. His work helps individuals, teams and leaders remain composed, protect judgement and act effectively through pressure, difficulty and change.

This is not theory borrowed from extreme environments.

It is hard-earned experience, carefully translated for the challenges people face at work.

Ian holds a First Class BSc (Hons)in Outdoor Studies, numerous Teaching and Coaching qualifications, is a current HCPC Registered Paramedic is a Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming and Advanced Behavioural Modelling.
